darling_lisa: (DT Then Love Me)
So I was chatting back and forth with  [livejournal.com profile] caarirose  earlier tonight in email like we do and I mentioned that i had had Bang the Doldrums by FOB stuck in my head all day and I quoted the line that I used as the title of this post to her.   She replied that even tho it wasn't one of my favorite songs that the lyrics were pretty me anyways.

And that got me thinking.  I listen to music a lot.  Like, A LOT.  And I tend to make random associations in my head to it.  So when I hear "I know the world's a broken bone, melt your headaches, call it home" (P!atD) I tend to think of Cari because of her love for RyRo and our shared feels about that particular song and the shorthand that it has become for us, and when Heart is singing about "cast my spell of love on you, a woman from a child" I always think of  [livejournal.com profile] ravensword  because Magic Man always reminds me of JDM and where there is JDM, there is Amara.  Whenever I hear Mumford singing "my weakness I feel I must finally show" I am reminded of a million conversations with my beloved  [livejournal.com profile] canadiangoddess  that only make sense to us, and how in so many ways she truly does have part of my brain.  Likewise, the phrase "automatic joy" from AFP's Coin Operated Boy brings to mind a million different thoughts and memories of  [livejournal.com profile] havenward from enabling her writing to the simple glee of hanging out getting drunk together and being dorks and the way i love the words she writes.  Even people I don't know as well have lyrics that strike me, "Look alive sunshine" makes me think of  [livejournal.com profile] sophie_448  because of a pic of her cosplaying Killjoys and Mikey Way is about as close to sunshine as you can come in a human being, and Duran's Last Chance on the Stairway makes me think of  [livejournal.com profile] katzb101.

Which is just my long winded way of asking... what lyrics remind you of me?  Doesn't matter if it is a song/artist I know or not, I'm curious to see what comes to mind.  :)

(And if you want to know what lyrics remind me of you, just mention it in your comment and I'll see what pops into my head)

Stupid migraine, why don't you fuck off and leave me alone? I need sleep. And to not be in pain. Arrgh

Ahem, anyways.

Day 10 of the Snowflake Challenge is up and it's about fanwork creators and why we love them.

Share a creator with us. It doesn't have to be your absolutely favorite creator, because I don't know about you, but I have a long list of absolute favorites. Maybe pick someone less well-known, or someone who does something unique in terms of media or pairings or ships or fandoms.

In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing. Make a recs list, create a Fanlore page for them, link to their archives or masterlists or websites. It can be a detailed, thoughtful analysis, or a squeeful, joyful post. Or maybe a combination of the two.

This is another hard one because I have so many people that I love and devour everything they write with glee. So I'm going to cheat a little and rec a few in varying fandoms... a little something for everyone :)

To save your flists...

Ok, I'm going to make myself stop there or I never will... seriously, I have some amazing writers as friends (I'm looking at you [livejournal.com profile] caarirose and [livejournal.com profile] phantisma and I could go on all day about them, but I am already pushing the boundaries of what this day was supposed to be *grin*
darling_lisa: (MCR Bad Mikey no cookie!)
I should be asleep now, instead I am posting my day 6 entry for the Snowflake Challenge. Today's challenge is as follows:

... rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) and that you ended up loving.

This one was harder because I don't have a lot of hard limits where fic is concerned... but taking a look through my Pinboard I think I managed to get a decent cross section of things that fit the bill.

First off, is a pairing that I never would have thought I would like. I love Trek, love Trek fic and I even love the way Spock and McCoy jibe at each other... but I can honestly say I never in a million years would have thought I would like Spock/McCoy. What turned me around was Scarred Beautiful by [livejournal.com profile] notboldly. Everyone is perfectly in character and the slow progression of things is pitch perfect. Summary: McCoy had never put much credence in judging people based on their scars, probably because he had more than a few himself.

This one hits one of my strange self imposed limits. Yes, I am in the SPN fandom, and yes I read Wincest. BUT, I don't like and never read any RPS incest between actual siblings, it squicks the hell out of me. I just can't do it. And this fic is one of the only - if not the only - exception I can remember to that rule. It is another case of loving the author and basically devouring any/everything they write. Sorry Neil... but I love this one. Blue_Soaring's I know there's better brothers but you're the only one that's mine Summary: Glamdom. Adam Lambert/Neil Lambert. NC-17. ~6300 words. Incest. Pre-idol. Neil would like to think he's had a remarkably dick-free life when it comes to Adam.

And then there is the most WTF fic I ever loved *laugh* But see, I love [livejournal.com profile] cherrybina and I trust her not to steer me wrong fannishly, so when she recced [livejournal.com profile] formerdinosaur's The Scenic Route and flailed about it, I had to give it a try. Even though it was South Park fic. Yes, that South Park. BUT don't think I have lost it... it's the South Park boys all grown up and heading off to college. It's an epic story (clocking in at around 100k) about coming of age and road trips with friends and trying to figure out who you are and what you want and best friends and fuck it's just gorgeous. Seriously, if you ignore everything else I have recced, give this one a try. Summary: Summary: The boys embark on a six day road trip to California before separating for college. Cartman is a pain in the ass, Kenny has no future, Butters is in crisis, and Kyle doesn't know how he'll say goodbye to Stan.

Year in Review meme

I've seen this floating around and like the idea of wrapping up the year over the course of the month. I'll try posting one a day... we'll see how that goes *grin*

Day 1: Write about your favorite movie that came out in theaters this year

I can't really say I've had a favorite movie this year. There have been some awesome movies... Thor, Warrior, Crazy Stupid Love, Harry Potter... but I don't have a favorite. I can say that the ones that hit me hardest were Warrior, 50/50 and The Help, I sobbed like a baby during each of them.

Ok yeah, so guess who has insomnia? /sigh

So there I am, trolling the interwebs praying that I will get tired and actually fall asleep and what do I see on a random webpage? A link to a recording of the Duran Duran concert from May (the David Lynch thing they did.) And being a fan from way back, I click on it figuring it will be fun nostalgia...

But then guess who comes out on stage to sing Planet Earth? Gerard fucking Way. At which point I start laughing and figure it's a sign from god. *grin*

Another pic under the cut because it amuses me... )

Man I love three day weekends! Why can't we have them all the time? Not that I did anything extraordinary or anything, but still.

Matter of fact, I woke up with a migraine this morning and spent a good portion of the day sleeping. It wasn't one of the killer ones, I know it's from being stressed about going back to the phones tomorrow for two weeks, still kind of killed my plans for doing some cleaning today though.

Just 10 days until I fly to Vegas for the Kane show. How is it that this is only my second Kane concert for the year? *shaking my head* Something is wrong in the universe, lol. It'll be another quick in and out trip, the big Vegas vacation won't be until my birthday in November, but it will be good to see people I haven't in awhile.

As for what I did do this weekend... I mostly read and treated myself to the movies. I saw The Help (very good, had me, my mom and my sister all sobbing in the theatre,) and I also caught Don't Be Afraid of the Dark last week. Very Guillermo del Toro. Altho I have to admit I spent a large part of the movie worried about the little girl because Pan's Labyrinth scarred me for life *laugh* (I love Pan's Labyrinth just for the record, but between the creepy monster that ate fairies and the ending... yeah, scarred.)

Bookwise... I reread Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince trilogy this weekend. Man I love that world. And I've finally started reading the latest George R.R. Martin, A Dance of Dragons. I bought it on the day it came out but wasn't quite ready to start in on it until now. (I love A Song of Ice and Fire as a series, but man it can be depressing and it's not a fast and/or uninvolved read.)

And pretty much that is all I have to babble about right now. I think I'm going to end my weekend by checking out the first episode of Lost Girl, lots of people on my flist seem to like it, so we'll see how it goes.
darling_lisa: (Default)
Ok, I'm totally supposed to be going to bed, but I was checking the interwebs one last time before I went to sleep and I saw a tweet from Tommy Joe Ratliff that said "Next time I'll be in this pic with them!" and so I had to click. And what did I see?

Marilyn Manson hugging Nick Rhodes. Marilyn Manson. HUGGING. Nick Rhodes. And Tommy wants to be part of it.

Now do you see? This is like the shorthand version of why this fandom was tailor made for me. *grin* Duran Duran to Marilyn Manson to Adam Lambert to Tommy Joe Ratliff. And all the connections in between.

Also? DAYYYYYYUM Nick Rhodes has aged well. I'm just sayin. I was always more of a John or Roger girl... but Nick? Still gorgeous.

Ok, bed now... really.

Clicky if you want to see the pic... )

So I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] caarirose in email earlier today about how there isn't much going on fic challenge wise right now and she was looking for something to keep her muses going and I mentioned how I had been wanting to do a Sex is not the enemy style ficathon every since I had seen it mentioned on [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster's LJ last year around this time. I haven't written a thing in forever so I have no idea if I would be able to actually write, but I'd be more than willing to coordinate and stuff if people were interested...

So I guess I'm just asking.. would you be?

The idea behind it basically being you would sign up with a few parameters that you want me to work with, and then I would give you an image prompt from the tumblr Sex is not the enemy (Very NSFW) From there you would create a story of say at least 500 words in the fandom of your choosing and post it wherever you want and link it back here, then after a set amount of time, I'd gather all the links together and post a master list.

Sound like fun?
darling_lisa: (Hair on fire)
So Lisa, you might ask, why in the hell are you up at 2:17 in the freaking morning?

Good question. Sadly the answer is that I seem to have caught another damn cold. I was feeling tired earlier and laid down for a short nap, only to wake up 6 hours later miserable, wracked with chills and sneezing my head off. I am running a fever and my throat is dry and scratchy. FML.

BUT. The gods are kind and when I did wake up, my iTunes DL of the new Christian Kane CD was waiting for me. (And yes, I'm one of *those* fans, I bought the physical CD off Christian's website so I could get the keychain and necklace as well (but not the VIP package, because really... I live in the desert, when am I going to need a beanie and gloves?) but I wanted the bonus track and I know that the hits on iTunes are going to do more for his standing in the music community.

Anyways. I still think the album is lacking a bit of the rawness that made Kane so special originally, and I know that they wanted/needed to appeal to a wider country audience with this one so that is ok I guess. I am absolutely in love with his cover of Fast Car, just. Yeah. I doubt he will play it live, but man I would love to hear that one in concert. Also if you can get the iTunes version, it is well worth it for the bonus version of Different Kind of Knight. Its accoustic, just Christian and his guitar. Cut for fangirl bit ) It also comes with the extended version of the House Rules video, so if you haven't seen it yet, or wanted a copy of that, there you go. :)

So it's 3am and I went to bed a few hours ago feeling normal but tired. Woke up and in the past hour I've thrown up 3x and am running a fever of 101.9. There is a nasty storm outside and it sounds like the windows of my bedroom are going to be blown in and apparently there is some kind of door opening and closing fiesta going on in the hallway of my apt complex. I am miserable and prolly sick and on the verge of tears for no apparent reason.

Stolen from Sophie_448 because I love books and am bored. *g*

Name fifteen books you've read that will always stay with you, and don't take too much time to think about it (the first fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes). Copy this into your own post.

1 - Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley (my canon Arthurian legend btw)
2 - Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (checked it out 20+ times in elementary school)
3 - Deal Breaker by Harlan Coben (because I am a sucker for smart assed detectives)
4 - The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald (not a huge fan of Fitzgerald in general, but damn, I heart this one)
5 - Tick Tock by Dean Koontz (horror and comedy rolled into one=gold)
6 - Blue Moon by Laurell K Hamiltion (umm, hello were kink)
7 - Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman (contains my absolute fave Gaiman short story ever - Murder Mysteries)
8 - The Stand by Stephen King (apocalypse, yes please)
9 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service by Ian Fleming (Bond as the hard assed bastard that he should be)
10 - Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (don't judge me, I am a sap)
11 - Black Jewel Trilogy by Anne Bishop (yes, 3 books but fuck it, they owned me when I first read them)
12 - Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey (there aren't enough words to describe how much I love this world)
13 - A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle (the first time I remember a book blowing my mind)
14 - Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (see reason for #10)
15 - Count Zero by William Gibson (the father of cyberpunk, nuff said)

So I've spent the better part of this week sick as a dog... some freak summer cold that had me running a ridiculously high temp and calling in sick to work so I could sleep most of the day. I just woke up and my fever is completely gone, as are the assorted aches and pains that came with it and the hellacious headache that wouldn't go away. Which, YAY! But on the other hand, I am wide awake and it's 2:40 in the morning. All of which is apropos of nothing, but figured I'd try and make this post at least somewhat useful. lol.

Anyways, for whatever reason, my brain tends to latch onto one thing when I am sick and then keep repeating it over and over and over. Because I like a little extra torture when I'm not feeling well you see. Sometimes I get stuck trying to remember how to spell a certain word (and let me tell you, the time I spelled Mamaroneck (NY).. Mammaroneck? Mamaroneck? Mamaronek? over and over for a week, I was this close to finding a gun to end my misery. The reason I mention this is because this time around the word that got stuck in my head was Hughes. (Hues, Hughs, Hews...) Which always reminds me of the story of a cow in the road. So you get to come along memory lane with me.

Truth be told, I don't think it was a real cow at all. I think it was a cybernetic cow, a stealth cow if you will... )
darling_lisa: (Default)
I apparently have lost mine. Think it went off for a walk in the woods with my ability to sleep. Bastards.

And yet, I can do nothing productive either.

So instead I am going to munch on some Wheat Thins and watch Secondhand Lions.

Also? Karl Urban=Pretty!
darling_lisa: (JDM smile)
Couldn't get to sleep tonight so I played around with pretty pics of Jeffrey Dean Morgan instead. Mmmmm.

Plus 4 more under here... )
darling_lisa: (whiteout)
Ok, so two things and then I *have* to go to sleep.

First... just got back from a midnight showing of Dark Knight. Oh my fucking god. AMAZING. Heath Ledger... I just don't even have the words. He was creepy and psychotic, but intriguing at the same time. There is a scene where he sends his first video to the news... just what he did with his voice in that scene made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. This movie is what my Batman has always been. I loved the Tim Burton Batman, but Christian Bale nailed it in this one. God. It is dark and painful and there are no happy endings.

Second... driving home and I see the temperature thingys on the side of the bank out in front of the Viscount, and its 3 in the damn morning and 89 degrees outside?? WTF??

Must go to sleep.

All about Me
