darling_lisa: (Kane Don't Go)
Today's writing is a bit of a piece that [livejournal.com profile] havenward and I started writing together after Con-Con. Not sure that it will make sense out of the context of the story, but it was basically inspired by a story Christian told at the gig at Dante's to end the convention that struck both of our muses. Hopefully someday we will actually manage to finish and post it. *crossing everything*

Haze, Steve Carlson POV, approx 300 words )
darling_lisa: (Default)
Ok, stole this and am going to see if I can get my muses talking again. The challenge is: using the prompts below, write a drabble (or whatever) a day for the next 30 days. Find someone willing to hit you if you miss a day.

beginning. accusation. restless. snowflake. haze. flame. formal. companion. move. silver. prepared. knowledge. denial. wind. order. thanks. look. summer. transformation. tremble. sunset. mad. thousand. outside. winter. diamond. letters. promise. simple. future.

I started, appropriately enough with Beginning - MCR, approx 200 words )

No idea if I'll keep posting them here or what, but I'm counting on to smack me if I miss a day. So yeah... here goes nothing :)
darling_lisa: (Anne Hathaway)
It's the final day of the Snowflake challenge and for today, the challenge is to share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fangirls (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.

So many wonderful memories, I'm gonna kind of hit the highlights by fandom.

It all started with Steve Carlson oddly enough... )

And then there was the first Kane gig in Portland... )

Oh Wincon... yes, Wincon is totally it's own fandom! )

Fanfic, oh you glorious beast you... )

Heh, ok I kind of babbled a bit there, didn't I? I'll stop there but let me just say before I do that I am thankful to all of my fandoms for bringing me the friends I have. Even if you are just someone I know online and we've never met face to face, or if I did meet you but it was at a horribly loud party and I had a migraine at the time, or if we shared a drink at sound check waiting for the boys, or you commented on my icons, etc... I am so beyond grateful to have you part of my fandom family. *hugs you all*
darling_lisa: (FOB OTP bargain)
Long story short = fandom challenge for the first 15 days of January. So I'll be posting hopefully at least once a day for the next few weeks. :D

Day 1 is to rec your own fanworks... Ummmm. /o\ Ok... ok, so yeah it's kind of a mixed bag.

Writing wise, I'm not really a huge fan of reccing myself but I really like Being Without Significance which is set in [livejournal.com profile] havenward's Greek Gods AU verse. It's my RPS take on the god Hades and I really like the feel of it.

I love participating in Big Bangs, and hands down my favorite images I've ever created for a Big Bang would be the artwork for [livejournal.com profile] caarirose's Between the Falling and the First Step is Love for the SPN J2 Big bang.

I've been bribing [livejournal.com profile] havenward to keep writing more of her original steampunk novel by creating a header for her layout for every 500 words she writes. I have to say it's worked out well in getting me new fic *grin* and I do like the style I've developed for the headers I've made for her. I've worked hard to keep some sort of cohesive feel to the group, and I think for the most part I've managed thus far.

And finally, I am fairly proud of my icon making skills. I think I've come a loooooong way since when I first started, and I am gonna rec my Dark Tower icons and the new set of bandom iconsfor MCR and FOB since that is probably the only bandom related item I have to rec this whole period *laughs*

I'll be tagging all my entries with "Snowflake Challange 2012" and I won't be showing this banner after today cause I think it's kind of big, lol. But I want to put it up just in case anyone wants to see what this is all about.

Year in Review meme

I've seen this floating around and like the idea of wrapping up the year over the course of the month. I'll try posting one a day... we'll see how that goes *grin*

Day 1: Write about your favorite movie that came out in theaters this year

I can't really say I've had a favorite movie this year. There have been some awesome movies... Thor, Warrior, Crazy Stupid Love, Harry Potter... but I don't have a favorite. I can say that the ones that hit me hardest were Warrior, 50/50 and The Help, I sobbed like a baby during each of them.

Want to see the rest of the questions? Check below the cut )
darling_lisa: (Hair on fire)
Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] havenward who stole it from [livejournal.com profile] badfalcon:

RELATE ME! When you think of me, what is the first thing that pops into your mind related to me in the following 10 catergories:

TV Show
Other LJ user
The first word you think of when you think of me

You don't have to explain, just list the first thing that pops into your mind. If you can't think of one or a few, that's fine too.
darling_lisa: (Default)
I'm avoiding going out to run my errands in 104 degree heat, so I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] waterofthemoon and [livejournal.com profile] sophie_448

So here's how it works:
1. Open your music library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc).
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question, type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool....

I don't think this list makes me cool, but it does amuse the hell out of me... )

Why is it the days before a holiday weekend seem to stretch out forever? Ugh. The first few hours into my work day and it seems like forever. Come on weekend!

I've been talking to [livejournal.com profile] ravensword this morning over Google about how there needs to be a LJ comm where authors sign up to write fic for people on a donation to charity basis. Like the author would sign up and say I'll write for these charities, these are my fandoms and rates, make an offer. Then it wouldn't be dependent on a Help XYZ comm popping up (which could still totally happen for crisis situations,) but also allow some local and smaller charities to get money/donations as well as larger groups like the Red Cross, etc year round, not just when there is a natural disaster. Plus then when I have a craving for something, I can just go "shopping" and do some good at the same time. *grin* (Because it all comes back to me in the end. :D)

In other news... not much exciting going on here. I am over my mudlung, thank the gods. My adventure this week was the lock on my front door deciding to throw a pin, leaving me basically prisoner in my apt until Maintenance could replace my lock. (I could lock it from the inside, but not from the outside as the pic prolly explains.)

Cut for a picture of a borked deadbolt, really not that interesting but I thought it came out pretty so I'm sharing )

No plans for the long weekend other than to rest and relax. I should prolly clean my apt... but we'll see how motivated I get on that front. I do have to do some laundry tho. Boo.

Ok and finally to kill some more time, randomly a few weeks ago I had a conversation with some friends and we were talking about music and they expressed surprise at some things I said. Basically along the lines of "I never would have thought you listened to... " Which I was kind of shocked by because I really do consider myself a musical omnivore. But then I suppose I do get in ruts where I listen to one band/genre/whatever for periods and get a bit focused. So anyways, this is all a long winded way of saying... have 5 Songs that I don't think people would expect me to know/like. (And please, feel free to post your own 5 songs version, I'm curious)

(All links go to MegaUpload)

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - My Favorite Things
I can't remember how I first stumbled onto Me First, but I think it was sometime around college. They are exclusively a cover band, but they do fantastic high energy punk covers and are some of my favorite songs to work out to or sing along with on drunken nights *grin*

Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
This song typifies Zeppelin and the Classic Rock sound for me. It's all about the driving guitar riff, and it screams sex with every progression. The drums and bass work in tandem to push everything higher and then you lay the vocals over top... yeah, thats the stuff right there. When people talk about Heavy Metal? It started right here.

Michael Buble - Sway
I actually prefer the original version by Dean Martin but I don't have it on this computer, so you get the Michael Buble cover. I love swing and no one did it like the Rat Pack. If I were ever to get married, this song would be my first dance song.

Combichrist - What the Fuck is Wrong With You?
A bit more on the aggressive side than most people would imagine me, but I love me some Combichrist. I finally got to see them in concert here in town a few years back and holy crap, I came out of that concert drenched in sweat and sore for DAYS afterwards from dancing my ass off. I fucking miss the club here that used be "Alternative" and ran different veins of music each night... Goth/Industrial/EBE/Techno/Aggro/Synthpop/whatever they felt like, I used to go every weekend and dance until I couldn't stand upright.

Lady Gaga - So Happy I Could Die
"Happy in the club with a bottle of red wine, smiles in our eyes because we're having a good time..." There are no words for how catchy the chorus is and how I can get lost listening to this song. Maybe it's sense memory or maybe it's because I so strongly associate it with good friends and good times, but everytime it comes on, I'm singing and most likely dancing too. Is it total pop fluff? Yes. Do I love it? Hells yeah. Be your best friend and I'll love you forever...

From both [livejournal.com profile] canadiangoddess and [livejournal.com profile] havenward...

Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed and I'll ask you five questions. In return you'll update your journal with my five questions and your five answers. You'll include this explanation and ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.

My answers to questions from Sarah and Haven are here... )
darling_lisa: (Scream)
Ok, so the horror fest has begun!

So far I've managed to watch:

Session 9 - nice, creepy little movie. Set in an abandoned insane asylum/sanitarium, and most of the action takes place during the day but still manages to be unsettling and creepy as fuck in some spots.

The Descent - DAMN. This movie made me so uncomfortable in spots I had to pause it. I just, I am not claustrophobic at all, but man some of those scenes. And how awesome was it to have a movie full of women kicking ass and taking names? Altho I'm already screaming at Sarah having read a brief description of The Descent part 2 wondering what on earth could convince her to go back in there, so I guess I'd say I got sucked in, yeah?

Carriers - I expected more of a Zombieland/28 Days Later kind of movie, but this was more of a thinky emotional piece than a true horror movie. Chris Pine and Piper Perabo were both awesome and it was not particularly hard to see where this movie was headed from the start, but it was pretty compelling watching that train run off the tracks none the less.

Three Extremes I and II - the thing about a lot of Asian horror is that it is paced so differently than what we are used to. So things move and happen and before you know it, the horror has grown slowly and surely just outside the range of your vision but then you turn your head just right and you realize you can't unsee it. Ever.

The Haunting in Connecticut - pretty standard fare for a haunted house. I did like the twist on the ghosts and the whole souvenir thing was incredibly creepy. Also? For future refernce, any room that has blacked out windows and door that you can't open? DO NOT SLEEP IN THERE.

Pandorum - frankly the ending of the movie totally made the whole thing for me. I did not see that coming at all and I love that I never in a million years would have thought of that, and bravo for an original idea!

I want to try and catch some of the movies out in the theatres this weekend and Netflix tells me that Drag Me to Hell and May are winging their way to me even as we speak, so there should be more updates soon :)
darling_lisa: (DLM Copier)
Ok, so I'm on the phones for the next 2 weeks to help with the tax filing deadline and I need something to distract me... so I'm stealing this from all over the place :D

- Leave a comment saying "Mullet with headlights!"
- I'll ask you five questions to satisfy my curiosity.
- Update your journal with the answers to your questions.
- Include this explanation and offer to ask other people

Stolen from my darling [livejournal.com profile] canadiangoddess , so the BBC says the average person only has read 6 out of 100 of the following. Repost and bold the ones you have read and show the BBC they are a bunch of poopyheads.

Heh, well we know I'm not average... )

Have a meme instead :)

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] badfalcon (with slight editing.)

Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, ice cream flavors, books, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs, seriously anything goes.
darling_lisa: (13 O Clock)
Vaguely think I have caught a cold from the bastard on the plane from PDX to Vegas that was sneezing and coughing up a storm. Grumble.

In the meantime, have a meme. Taken from [livejournal.com profile] badfalcon

Comment on this entry and let me know and I will give you a letter. Name 10 songs you love starting with that letter.

1 - Just another goodbye (Steve Carlson)
2 - Just can't get enough pills (brilliant mashup of Depeche Mode/Eminem by Freelance Hellraiser)
3 - Joey (Concrete Blonde)
4 - Just to see you smile (Tim McGraw)
5 - Judith (A Perfect Circle)
*taps lips as I think*
6 - Jackie's Strength (Tori Amos)
7 - Jane Says (Jane's Addiction)
8 - Jenny was a friend of mine (The Killers)
9 - Just like heaven (The Cure)
10 - Just you wait (My Fair Lady Soundtrack)

Ok, trying that sleep thing again...

So work sucks this week. And the temp is going to be 107 for two days out of the next 5. And I haven't written a damn thing in way too long.

Stealing from everyone, but it all started with [livejournal.com profile] amara_m

There is a bar in my brain where all my characters go to hang out and generally make me crazy.

Comment with two characters from any of my stories (different stories, same story, hell, different versions of the same character even) and topic of conversation.

I'll write you a wee snippet.

Sound fun? No holds barred, any topic, any characters, as many as you want.

Waiting for my pizza to be done so I can have some lunch... in the meantime, have a meme. Stolen from everyone.

Comment and I will...
01. Respond with something random about you.
02. Tell you which color you remind me of.
03. Tell you my first memory of you.
04. Tell you what animal you remind me of.
05. Ask you something I've always wondered about you.
06. Tell you my favorite thing about you.
07. Tell you my least favorite thing about you.
08. Challenge you to post this on your journal. (Unless you've already done so or you know, you don't want to... I am very laid back on this one.)
darling_lisa: (13 O Clock)
So I kind of forgot to post this yesterday, lol.

Yesterday's happy - going to lunch with Neil for sushi and laughing our asses off all lunch long. From the pic of Legolas (complete with fake ivy leaves winding up the mirror) in the girls bathroom (apparently the boys had a pic of Will Smith from Wild Wild West in it,) to the enormous amount of sushi we consumed... it was a fantastic 2 hours. Forgot about everything for a bit and just laughed and hung out with a dear friend.

Today's happy - I can walk without crutches!! My foot no longer does that highly unsettling thing where it feels like it is pulling away from my leg bone, and when I attempted hobbling around this morning without the crutches, I was actually able to put some weight on it. Still wrapped and hurts like a mother, but no more crutches! \o/
darling_lisa: (Wheee!)
Heh, I suppose I should be happy that I can finally access LJ and post this. *grin*

Today's happy thing is this clip from Neil Gaiman's "Mirrormask" from the Jim Hensen Company. I have been a fan of the JHC for years, going back to the Muppet Show and Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, et al.

darling_lisa: (Steve tongue pierced manip)
1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this everyday for eight days without fail.
3. Tag eight of your friends to do the same.

I feel like I've been whinging a lot lately and I know that I can tend to focus on the negative side of things during tax season... so for these last 8 days I want to make sure I am focusing on things that make me happy, even if just for a little bit. I'm not going to tag anyone, but if you wanna join me... the more the merrier :)

Today's happy is an email reminding me I need to go through my picture collections to find some inspiration for a certain AU Big Bang that I am going to be making art for. There will be much pretty that I need to look through, oh damn.
darling_lisa: (Puppet love you guys)
Aka... Meme time :)

Reply to this post, and I'll tell you one reason why I like you. Then (should you feel like it,) put this in your own journal, and spread the love.
